TCM Tool Academy Milling Module

Module 7 - CNC course & training

Milling

The basis of module 7 is milling with indexable inserts. It begins with an introduction to milling processes, average chip thickness and cutting data, process variables, power consumption, torques, supplemented by calculation examples. Types and applications of indexable inserts Face milling cutters, shoulder milling cutters, end mills, side milling cutters, hedgehog cutters, T-slot cutters, chamfer cutters are further points of the training. High feed milling, plunging milling, ramping and circular drilling milling as special processes are treated as well as geometries of the milling inserts, selection of carbide types and the elimination of milling problems. The topic of solid carbide end mills is then dealt with. Cutting angles, cutting geometries and designs as well as modern cutting materials form the beginning. Special attention is given to face radius and torus milling cutters, multi-edged high-performance finishing cutters, milling cutters for machining aluminum and graphite and hard milling in toolmaking. According to the current state of milling technology, the course participants are also trained in detail with the latest milling strategies of trochoidal milling, as well as circular segment finish milling.
